The Rosie Green Edit: Luxury beyond the Links at Marine North Berwick

This week’s RGE Edit take you beyond the links to the heritage grandeur of Marine Hotel North Berwick

Only an hour along the coastline of the Firth and Forth from my home in Stockbridge, I found myself in the scenic coastal surroundings of North Berwick - a charming small town which houses a resort hotel called Marine.

The rugged coasts of the North East just do something for me. They’re so elemental, so temperamental, and so powerful - miles upon miles of rugged coastline, (often empty) beaches and the changing temper of British weather and waves.

Marine North Berwick is perfectly placed to capture all of this. Sitting proudly on the rugged Scottish coastline, it’s a venue which fuses Victorian elegance with modern comfort. Indoor with outdoor. The genteel charm of a beautiful golf course with the power of the wild, windswept beaches beyond.

About Marine North Berwick

This 5* hotel is part of the Marine & Lawn group, which runs six heritage hotel spots across the Scottish highlands, North East coast, and Northern Ireland.

Renowned for taking on heritage country house locales and combining them with incredible golf facilities, they combine a respect for history with a dedication to modern hospitality.

Uninterrupted views of the sea call you from every window at Marine North Berwick, as the subdued lighting, cosy sofas and warm woods give way to water and waves. Only the green of the golf links lies between Marine and the sea.

Marine North Berwick Luxury Wedding Venue Logistics

I was invited by the hotel to experience their commitment to high-end hospitality. I can’t fully reveal all the details as of yet (keep your eyes peeled), but I wanted to share the logistics of how I can see the Marine North Berwick working as a Scottish luxury wedding or events venue.

For a start, this should be firmly on the venues list for any brides and grooms with a commitment to the course. Combining legendary courses with unparalleled stays, Marine & Lawn company hotels provide the perfect venue for those looking to tee off on championship fairways, or just soaking in the sea air whilst enjoying an unforgettable round. They say that ‘every stay is as extraordinary as the courses that surround it’, and I have to agree - Marine North Berwick has all of the foundations for creating a uniquely special event.

The hotel still delivers, even for those with no passion for the putting. For me, all the best Scottish luxury wedding venues have a good spa. Marine offers treatments using Scottish brand Ishga, named for the Gaelic for water. This award-winning organic skincare range uses hand-harvested seaweed and high-performing active ingredients.  The serene pool meanwhile offers verdant garden views to enjoy whilst you do your lengths, and was named one of the ‘Best Spas in Scotland’ for 2026 by Condé Nast Traveller.

The RGE experience: Marine North Berwick

My suite overlooked iconic Bass Rock. Three miles off the coast, this towering volcanic outcrop jutting from the waves houses the world’s largest Northern gannet colony and has its own rich history – as a chapel, prison and fortress for starters! Turning my eyes away from the sea for a moment, all of the detailing of the suite – from the warm woods and autumnal hues of the upholstery – felt intentionally crafted to support a feeling of respect for the building’s Victorian history alongside comfort and modern luxury.

I dined at The Lawn, where the best Scottish produce is celebrated through an Italian approach. Regional Italian specialities and timeless Italian classics are celebrated through the best Scottish provenance. Bass Rock Bar, meanwhile, is a dark, wood-paneled and cosy affair, offering thoughtfully crafted cocktails to accompany your sweeping views to the sea.

Beyond the hotel, North Berwick has a charm of its own, with plenty of local independent cafes for a fab coffee and independent shops for a good browse, as well as whisky tastings, golf, castles, and boat trips to Bass Rock all within easy striking distance.

Without revealing too much, I am already eager and excited to see whether my London client chooses this venue for their multi-day luxury wedding experience.

Luxury Scottish Venues Checklist: Exceptional Service

By now, you likely know how committed RGE are to the best service. Whilst that’s not always Silver Service formality, it is ALWAYS welcoming, client-focussed, and should without hesitation go above and beyond what is expected.

The team here at Marine was incredibly helpful and lovely – kind, knowledgeable, and willing and eager to be of service.

Keep your eyes on the RGE Edit, as I’ll soon be visiting their Marine & Lawn sister venue up in St Andrews. We’re planning a pre-wedding gents’ golf day followed by a dinner at their St Andrews property, overlooking the beach. It’s going to be the perfect venue for curating those unforgettable moments, setting everything up perfectly for the spontaneous magic of a special event to unfold effortlessly.

Marine North Berwick is a canvas. Skilfully combining their contrasting offerings – from the incredible golf facilities and rugged beaches outside to the luxurious spa and sumptuous comfort of the interiors - this is a backdrop against which any luxury Scottish wedding or event could unfold.

I’m looking forward to revealing more about the event we have in the pipeline at this Scottish coastal venue, as soon as I can share!
